Rockford man arrested in ‘major drug seizure’ worth $650,000


A Rockford man was arrested in what officials are calling a “major drug seizure” following a months long investigation.

Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana and Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato held a press conference Wednesday morning to announce the arrest of Martin Martinez, 51, of Rockford.

A search warrant was executed on Thursday, September 6th at Martinez’s home in the 2000 block of Ridge Avenue, where they found 2 lbs of heroin, 3.04 lbs of crystal meth, 2 handguns, and $10,000 in cash.

A subsequent search of Martinez’s car revealed 74 lbs cannabis in car and 2.5 lbs of ‘black tar’ heroin, with a street value of $650,000.

Martinez is charged with several counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver, which could carry a penalty of 50-60 years in prison.

Martinez is currently being held in the Winnebago County Jail.
