The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office announced on Tuesday that Van Richardson, 28, was found guilty for the shooting death of Lester Sanders on Sablewood Drive in May of 2017.

Police say around 9:00 p.m. on May 24th, 2017, they were called to the 3300 block of Sablewood Drive after receiving reports of gunfire in the area. 

They located the victim, Lester Sanders, suffering from a gunshot wound. He later died from his injuries.

Richardson and another individual were arrested.

On Tuesday, Richardson was found guilty of First Degree Murder and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, which is punishable by 45 years to life in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

His sentencing is scheduled for Friday, October 19th.
