Rockford man found guilty of murdering his girlfriend

A Rockford man accused of killing his girlfriend in 2016 was found guilty.

A jury found Terrell Ellis, 38, guilty of First Degree Murder in the brutal beating death of Monica Box, 36. 

On April 28th, 2016, investigators found Box dead in her home on Louisiana Road after she was beaten to death.

Ellis had several prior encounters with police, including being jailed for aggravated battery and possession of a firearm. 

He was released on parole the day before the murder.

Ellis could face natural life behind bars after the jury decided the crime was exceptionally brutal and cruel.  He is scheduled to be back in court on May 31st at 1:30 p.m.
