Winnebago State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announced on Tuesday that Stephen R. Winters, 36, has been found guilty of carjacking charges dating back to a criminal incident in 2017.

On June 25th, 2017, Rockford Police say they were approached by a male victim who said Winters approached him from behind while he was at the Mobil Gas Station at 320 College Avenue, pointed a gun at him, and stole his black Chevrolet Impala.

Police found the vehicle a few minutes later, crashed at the intersection of Morgan Street and Dickerson Street. Winters was taken into custody at the scene.

Winters faces a sentence of 4-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. His sentencing will be held on August 28th.
