Rockford man indicted in June murder

A grand jury indicts a Rockford man police believe is behind a deadly double shooting.

Quinton Smith, 23, is charged with murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated battery with a firearm. This stems from a double shooting on June 18, 2019.

Investigators say Smith got into an argument with Joseph Hernandez. At some point, shots were fired. Hernandez and a 23 year-old woman were hit. Both took themselves to the hospital, but Hernandez died. The woman suffered non life-threatening injuries.

Smith is currently being held in the Winnebago County Jail. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for July 16th at 9am.
