Rockford Man Injures Police Officer During Capture

Rockford Police’s SCOPE (Specialized Community Oriented Police Enforcement) team arrested 24-year-old Rockford resident Edward Bruce on Sunday.

Bruce was wanted for a probation violation and a Fleeing to Elude warrant. Bruce is currently on parole from a burglary charge.

He was arrested when officers from the SCOPE team went to an address in the 2400 block of Jonathan Avenue on a warrant check. 

They found Bruce inside the home, in possession of a stolen handgun, in addition to marijuana, cocaine and heroin. 

A SCOPE officer was injured in the process of capturing Bruce. He was treated and released from a local hospital.

Bruce faces 9 charges in total, including Armed Habitual Criminal, Possession with Intent to Deliver both Cocaine and Heroin, Resisting an Officer, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.

Bruce is currently lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
