Rockford man on the loose, wanted for Monday afternoon shooting

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of Mykel Curry, 29, in connection with a Monday afternoon shooting.

Police say the shooting occurred shortly after 2:45 p.m. in the 400 block of 27th Street.

According to police, two black males suspects confronted a resident of the home over a previous dispute. During the confrontation, police say Curry drew a handgun and fired several rounds at the resident, who fired back at the suspects using his own weapon.

The 2nd suspect, a 23-year-old man who was with Curry, was shot in the leg and was taken to the hospital with what police consider non-life threatening injuries.

Curry is wanted on charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon.

Curry is currently at large. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Rockford Police at 815-966-2900 or CrimeStoppers at 815-963-7867.
