A Rockford man fights for his life while police try to find who shot him.
The 43 year-old man was gunned down in broad daylight while walking his dog. He’s the latest victim of violent crime in a string of shootings that have claimed two lives. Police say the victim was shot in the chest Monday afternoon at Montague and Holland.
“Witnesses are describing a newer model VW, silver in color with tinted windows, pulled up and at least one male occupant got out and started shooting,” said Asst. Dep. Chief Pat Hoey.
The victim is in critical condition. A house was also hit by one of the estimated five bullets shot.
Over just the span of a week, a total of nine people have been gunned down across Rockford. Two of them died. On Wednesday, James Tomlinson was shot and killed soon after getting his haircut at a barber shop on 7th St. and 15th Avenue. And, 16 year-old Keyaira Williams was shot and killed in an alley along Parkside Avenue last Thursday.
“That’s the reckless behavior we’ve been dealing with with these violent acts,” said Hoey. “Just the violent crime in Rockford is committed by a very, very small portion of the population.”
The victim’s name hasn’t yet been released.
