Rockford man sentenced to 30 years for robbing, shooting man he met on Craigslist

23-year-old Denzel D. Reid was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Wednesday for robbing and shooting a man after meeting him to purchase a cellphone, via Craigslist.

On September 24th, 2015, court records show that Rockford Police officers responded to the 3100 block of Chateau Court for an aggravated battery complaint, and found blood in the roadway when they arrived.

Police met with a victim who arrived shortly thereafter at a Rockford hospital. The victim said he had arranged to meet Reid to purchase a cell phone, and during the transaction, Reid pulled a handgun and demanded the victim’s money. When he refused, Reid shot him.

The victim drove himself to the hospital for treatment.

Reid was sentenced to 10 years in prison, plus an additional 20 years because the jury believed he  personally fired the gun.
