A Rockford man, wanted by police, has been arrested after allegedly fleeing from a Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputy.

It began Saturday when a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on the bypass, near the Mulford Road exit.  As he approached the car, he says the car then fled away at high speed, and then crashed into a ditch by the off ramp at the bypass and Harrison Ave.  The driver fled on foot, and the passenger in the vehicle was unhurt.

Investigators later determined that the driver of the car, 26-year-old Carter Minniefield, was wanted for Failure to Appear on a marijuana distribution charge.

A Sheriff’s Department TAC unit was able to track Minniefield down Sunday night at an apartment in the 1700 block of Siseman Rd.  He faces the following charges in addition to the warrant.

  • Driving on a suspended license
  • Fleeing to elude police
  • Speeding
  • No valid registration
  • Failure to signal
  • Failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident

He is being held on $20,000 bond.
