Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara is challenging residents to conserve water in a bid to win a national prize.

Mayors across the country are participating in the My Water Pledge, a month-long friendly competition between U.S. cities to see who can be the most “water wise”. 

Participants in the winning cities are eligible to win prizes, including $5,000 towards home utilities, a $500 shopping spree at a home improvement store, or a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid for a deserving charity.

The contest is designed to save infrastructure and operating costs for cities, and protect watershields and ecosystems.
