Human resource managers from area businesses attended a workplace violence safety seminar at the Radisson Convention Center on Tuesday.
The seminar comes in the aftermath of the deadly workplace shooting in Aurora last month.
Those in attendance learned tips to protect themselves and their employees.
Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara served as the keynote speaker.
In addition, McNamara shared his vision for public safety and economic neighborhood development.
Organizers of the event say it’s important for H.R. professionals to discuss how to handle unexpected, violent events.
“Many of them have been in terminations or employee discipline meetings that can get rather heated,” said Laurie S. Miller, who works with the 2HB Human Resources and Benefit Solutions Group. “So, we wanted to make sure that they have some resources at their fingertips or know how to develop a plan, to know how to deal with those kinds of situations.”
Today marked the 21st year the event has been held in Rockford.
