Rockford native expected to be named U.S. ambassador to the United Nations

WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Donald Trump is expected to nominate Rockford native and State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert to be his new ambassador to the United Nations. It's one of the most high profile jobs in U.S. diplomacy. Nauert grew up in the Forest City before pursuing a career in journalism. She spent time as a reporter and anchor for ABC and FOX News. The announcement is expected Friday via a tweet from President Trump.

Nauert would replace the current ambassador and former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley. Haley announced she would leave the post in  October. Nauert would need to be confirmed by the Senate, where Democrats are likely to question her qualifications.
