A Rockford Police officer’s photo is making the rounds on social media, it’s an emotional tribute to those who’ve died in the line of duty.
The photo shows a teary-eyed Officer Jhordynne Alexander. But, it’s no ordinary photo. It’s a moving tribute to police officers inspired by the death of Officer Jaimie Cox.
“I was with my husband at the funeral,” said make-up artist, Jude Ann, who prepared Alexander for the photo shoot. “It’s almost like everything was frozen in time. It’s hard to describe.”
If you look closely, you can see yellow police tape in the officer’s eyes, blue tears running down her cheeks, and a prayer in the corner.
“During our recent procession and funeral… it was [an] extremely emotional situation,” said Alexander. “It was amazing to see all the community support that we had. Rows and rows of people holding signs and waving and crying over somebody they didn’t know.”
“This is our life,” said Ann. “This is who we are. We absolutely love our blue family.”
Jude Ann worked with photographer Dannielle Cousin, whom she trusted would take a picture that conveys the emotional toll and sacrifices officers and their families face every day.
“I knew that I wanted to do something to honor not just Jaimie, but [fellow fallen officer] Kevin Rice,” said Ann.
“She came to me and I knew that I would be able to capture something that others wouldn’t be able to capture,” said Cousin.
“I cried in the car on the way to the shoot,” said Alexander. “But, I think, as an officer, you’re pretty good at turning off and on your emotions. I cried before and after the shoot, but not during.”
The picture then made its Facebook debut on Dec. 22nd. Since then, its been shared hundreds of times.
“It’s a good feeling to know that you have the community support,” said Alexander.
