Facing a $1 million budget deficit, the Rockford Park District announced Monday it’ll have to make some major cuts.

Among them, Sand Park Pool could be closed and operations of summer favorites like the Forest City Queen and Trolley Car will be suspended.  Four positions could also be eliminated.

In order to generate revenue, the Park District is considering video gaming at certain locations and price increases.

Maintenance costs is one of the biggest issues facing the district.  Board members also decided not to raise taxes to make it up.

None of the cuts have been finalized.  A final decision on that is expected to happen at its budget hearing in January.
