Rockford police arrest 21-year-old Milwaukee man on stolen handgun charge

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — 21-year-old Shannon Hayes, of Milwaukee, was arrested in Rockford on Sunday after police say he was found in possession of a stolen handgun.

Rockford Police say Rockford Housing Authority patrol officers spotted three male subjects standing by a vehicle in the 300 block of 15th Avenue, and found a handgun in the vehicle when they investigated.

Police say Hayes gave officers a fake name and was arrested.

The gun was discovered to have been stolen in Milwaukee, according to police.

Hayes was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Obstructing Identification, and no FOID.

He was taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
