Rockford Police have arrested Mykel Curry, 29, in connection with the afternoon shooting. Curry surrendered peacefully shortly before 9:00 p.m.

According to police, two black male suspects confronted a resident on the 400 block of 27th Street on Monday around 2:45 p.m. over a previous dispute. During the confrontation, police say Curry drew a handgun and fired several rounds at the resident, who fired back at the suspects using his own weapon.

The 2nd suspect, a 23-year-old man who was with Curry, was shot in the leg and was taken to the hospital with what police consider non-life threatening injuries.
