Rockford police arrest Kishwaukee and 17th Street shooting suspect

Rockford Police make an arrest of a man for shooting another man near the intersection of Kishwaukee Street and 17th Avenue.

At 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers received the call for the shooting. While they were conducting an on-the-scene investigation, a 39-year-old man arrived at a hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound. His condition was deemed to be non-life threatening. The victim said he was shot near Kishwaukee and 17th.

A suspect description was given to police detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit, who conducted the follow up investigation.

Officers from the Rockford Housing Authority Unit located the suspect, Devin Stevenson, 34, of Rockford, in the 600 block of Score Street. Stevenson was taken into custody and his handgun was recovered.

Stevenson was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and was taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
