Rockford Police arrest man for carjacking, armed robbery with a knife

45-year-old Shon Mangruem, of Rockford, was arrested after police say he flagged a driver down and stole his car at knifepoint.

According to Rockford Police, they were called to the area of 10th Street and 15th Avenue, where a 49-year-old male victim told them he was driving in the area when he was flagged down by Mangruem, who was an acquaintance.

Once he stopped, the victim told police that Mangruem produced a knife and demanded his money and property, before fleeing in the victim’s car.

Police say they located the car in the area of Kishwaukee Street and Harrison Avenue and gave chase. The suspect crashed into a pole at 6th Street and 16th Avenue and was taken into custody.

Mangruem was charged with Armed Robbery with a Knife, Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, and Aggravated Fleeing to Elude.

He was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
