Rockford Police and the United Way will hold another community block party Wednesday afternoon. It’s the fifth one this summer.

The parties are designed to build relations between officers and the community they serve.

“We want to make sure that people – that these neighborhoods – are important, that getting to know your neighbors is important,” said Grant Schubert, Neighborhoods Impact Manager at the United Way. “Understanding your resources, being able to communicate with the Rockford Police Department in a non-emergency setting, where you can just kind of have a casual conversation.”

Wednesday’s party will be held in the Ellis Heights neighborhood, centered in the 2500 block of Green Street. Those who can’t make it will get one more opportunity this summer: the final block party will be held next Wednesday at the Summerdale Childhood Center on Glenview Avenue.
