The Rockford Police Department swore in four new officers on Friday. Chief Dan O’Shea did the honors.
Once the candidates repeated a pledge, they received their badges.
All four are what’s called lateral transfers, meaning they received most of their training at other departments before training with the Rockford police.
Chief O’Shea says that makes their hiring a lot easier.
“We really like when we get lateral transfers,” he said. “They’ve got the basic academics already done, so they spend about a month in field training, and then they’re out on the street. [It’s] kind of an expedited process, and we get some good experience.”
O’Shea also promoted one officer to Detective.
