A video of a Rockford resident, received a lot of attention on social media. After Rockford Police circled Billy Adams’ block – several times, he decided to invite them into his home. Billy Adams JR. had the chance to talk to the police.
“They just let us know that they got a loud noise complaint,” said Adams. “At that point, I decided, you all can come in.”
After opening the doors to his home, Adams and his family, shared the story about his late uncle. In a video Adams’ posted to Facebook, his family were explaining to police how they were passing the time by reminiscing. They were appreciative of their visit- and Adams’ welcomed the officers exactly the way his uncle would have.
“We just had a good relationship with them,” said Adams. “It goes back to working hand in hand with each other and that’s something I learned from my uncle.”
Adams says he believes hospitality and respect is important to keeping and building strong relationships, like, those established with Rockford Police.
Adams offered the Rockford Officers dinner. They accepted. Then, went their separate ways. Just two days later one of the officers returned to his home, but this time bringing dinner to them. The Rockford officer arrived with a bag of steaks and hamburger patties to provide for the Adams family.
Billy Adams says in a time where the community seems to be struggling, these acts of kindness bring the community together.
“Sometimes you just have to be you,” said Adams. “Just give respect, if you’re a respectable person, just keep giving respect, keep giving respect, you never know when it’ll come back.”
