Two arrested after Rockford Police chase alleged car thieves to Alpine Park

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police shut down Alpine Park Thursday morning as officers searched for a suspect who allegedly stole a vehicle.

Police say they stopped a vehicle which was reportedly stolen out of DeKalb near Alpine Park.

According to police, the driver fled into the park on foot after OnStar disabled the car. The passenger fled toward McDonald’s at E. State and Alpine.

Police say they arrested the passenger right away.

K9 Chico and Rockford Park District officers assisted Rockford Police in searching the park.

Police were seen escorting a subject out of the park in handcuffs at 10:35 a.m.

A firearm was also recovered.

Police say there is no further danger to the public.
