Rockford Police showing off their newest Strong Neighborhood Houses Tuesday.
Police gave a preview of the new Strong House on 8th avenue, which Rockford P.D. partnered with the United Way of Rock River Valley to remodel. The Houses are designed to give officers a place to type up reports and file other materials all the with the hope that the presence of the House will reduce crime in the neighborhood where it’s located.
Officers are excited about the new location and say that neighbors are happy to have them there. The strong house will also offer summer activities for kids.
“A place for people to come and gather, to speak with, not only the officers, but their own neighbors,” Interim Police Chief Pat Hoey said and the preview. “We want it to be a gathering place.”
The Strong House in Ellis Heights is scheduled to open in the spring.
