City leaders honored a milestone between District 205 and a Rockford restaurant on Tuesday.
Mayor Larry Morrissey issued a proclamation celebrating the 30th anniversary of the partnership between the school district and Hoffman House.
Students who participate in the district’s Culinary Arts program learn how to cook in the kitchen at Hoffman House. Culinary Arts teacher Patty Oliveri says it’s an honor to be recognized by the city.
“It says a lot about the city itself,” said Oliveri. “I am from Rockford, so I’m proud to see they’d honor a business and school district working hand in hand to help educate our students. I just feel so proud.”
Students get hands-on experience in the kitchen and learn how to land a job, from building a resume to interview skills. More than 400 students have completed the program.
