Christians around the world are observing Good Friday today, to commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.
In Rockford, Rockford Urban Ministries held its annual Good Friday Walk For Justice, in which participants make 14 stops along Sinnissippi Park and downtown Rockford, to mark the stations of the cross.
Downtown stops included the State and Federal buildings, banks, and the Public Library.
Organizers say they hope the walk brings attention to the issues facing Rockford.
“Being part of the walk, I hope people feel empowered to continue their activism,” said Rev. Stephen Bowie, pastor of 3rd Presbyterian Church. “Seeing the walk, I hope people realize that there are realities that we need to face together and address together.”
This was the 33rd year the walk has been held in Rockford.
