Rockford runners hit the pavement to raise money for youth sports.

Rockford runners hit the pavement in an effort to raise money for youth sports in the RPS 205 Run.

Saturday afternoon hundreds came to downtown Rockford for the run put on by the Rockford Sports Coalition.

Kids and adults signed up to take on the just over two mile run to raise money for the Rockford Public Schools athletic program.

The Rockford Sports Coalition makes sure the public schools have the funds to keep its kids active and involved in sports.

“Community members gathered around and decided to make this foundation. Once a year when we collect all the money from events like this they split up the money and distribute it in the district, and they use it for whatever they feel it the biggest need”, RPS Athletic Support Specialist Abby Compton said.

The next event to raise money for RPS athletics is the Golf Scramble on July 26th at Aldeen Golf Course.
