A Rockford School Board member submitted a resignation letter to the board Monday.

In his letter, Dr. Michael Harner wrote “the workload and commitments accompanying my position do not allow me to sufficiently represent students, families, and constituents, nor have satisfactory interaction with RPS activities that I feel necessary and expected from RPS Administration and other Board members.”

Harner will continue to serve on the board until a replacement is found.

The district is accepting applications until Jan. 22nd.  Interviews will be conducted on Feb. 2nd.  Officials say they expect to make an appointment at the Feb. 9th school board meeting.  If no decision is made by then, the board will have another 30 days to find a replacement.

Harner represented Subdistrict E since April 2013.  He was reelected in April 2015 to a serve a four-year term.
