Rockford sees five armed or attempted armed robberies within 45 minutes

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Rockford Police are investigating the possibility that a series of armed robberies that occurred within a short time span within the city last night are related.

Police say the first occurred in the 200 block of Highland Avenue around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

A 44-year-old man had pulled into his driveway when he was approached by a black man in his early 20's. The victim locked the doors of his vehicle and reversed as the suspect pulled out a gun and demanded money. The victim was unharmed.

The suspect is described as 150 pounds, wearing a black hoodie and black athletic pants with white horizontal stripes on the bottom. 

The second incident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. in the 900 block of 15th Street, where a 71-year-old man was walking to his car when a white vehicle pulled up. Two black men got out of the car, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The would-be robbers demanded money, but the victim ran away. He was not hurt.

The third incident happened at about 6:35 p.m in the 5500 block of Pepper Drive, where a 54-year-old woman said she had pulled into her garage and gotten out of her car when two black men, described as being in their mid-20's, one of whom was armed with a gun, ran toward her and stole property from her. They fled in a dark colored SUV. They are described as being about 6' tall, 200 lbs, and wearing all dark clothing.

Then, at 6:45 pm. in the 300 block of Dawson Avenue, police learned a delivery driver was getting back into his vehicle when an armed black man pointed a gun at him and demanded money. The robber took the delivery driver's wallet and cash.

Then, he approached another man who was standing by his car in a nearby driveway, and robbed him of his money.

Neither victim was hurt. The suspect in this crime is described as a black male in his mid-20's, 6', wearing a black hoodie and black athletic pants.

Police say they have located the white suspect vehicle which was believed to be involved in some of the crimes.
