Rockford Teen Arrested After Allegedly Fleeing From Police Twice

Officers took a Rockford teen into custody after they say he ran away from them twice.

Investigators say they tried to pull over Lemar King, 19, for a registration violation in the 100 block of 9th Street around 11:45pm Sunday night.  However, officers say King then sped off.  There was no pursuit.

Police spotted King in the 2900 block of Halstead Rd. about 45 minutes later, but say he sped off again without pursuit.

Rockford Police eventually caught up to King at the home where the vehicle is registered at in the 700 block of Albert Avenue.  Police took King into custody there.  They say he was hiding in the bathroom.

Officers found a loaded .40 caliber handgun inside the Impala.  King was on parole for a previous weapons violation and is a documented gang member.  
King is currently being held in the Winnebago County Jail.  He’s charged with unlawful use of weapons by a felon and street gang member, aggravated fleeing to elude, and parole violation.  He’s due to appear in court March 11th.
