Rockford leaders want to crack down on massage parlors they claim are havens for human trafficking.
The City’s Codes and Regulations committee is working to pass a new ordinance that would place more regulations on parlors that aren’t licensed through the state. They’re looking at how other communities have addressed the problem.
“These facilities and these types of businesses are advertising on different websites that are not typically what you would want to see in your neighborhood,” said Ald. Joseph Chiarelli. “There are suggestions of prostitution. These are the kinds of businesses we’re trying to regulate.”
The committee didn’t vote on the measure Monday.
