The grassroots organization to save Rockford’s Trolley Car 36 announced on Thursday that they had reached a fundraising goal to allow the trolley to operate on a modified schedule for the 2018 season.

Trolley Car 36 operations, along with the Forest City Queen riverboat, had been affected by budget cuts by the Rockford Park District. The Park District had to eliminate $1 million from their 2018 budget without raising taxes.

A group of volunteers, led by Jodi Beach and her husband Jim, started a GoFundMe page to raise money to keep the riverfront attraction in operation.

On Thursday, they announced that they had raised $16,000 to cover all operational expenses for this coming season.

Exact dates the trolley will run have not been determined, but they expect that a modified schedule will take place May – August.
