Memorial Day is the day our nation honors the men and women who did not make it back home from war.
One local Vietnam veteran says the day means so much more. Stanley Campbell, Director of Rockford Urban Ministries, held a Memorial Day service, Honoring Vets for Peace, paying respect to those that gave their lives fighting and for those that continued to fight when they came home.
Campbell holds a special place on the holiday for the winter soldiers that fight to keep the next generation from going overseas.
“Not only about those who died in war for out county, but those who returned and came back and fought against the next war,” Campbell said. “Many of us have that in our hearts a prayer that they will be no more war.”
Honoring Vets for Peace was free for anyone to attend.
