The Rockford YWCA celebrated women who strive to make a positive impact on the community at a luncheon on Monday.
The “2019 Women of Achievement” awards were held at Giovanni’s Restaurant and Convention Center, at 610 N Bell School Road.
The Y recognized those working to eliminate racism and empower women.
Five women were honored and three scholarships were awarded.
The 2019 Women of Achievement Award recipients are:
Business: Laura Baluch, Partner, Barrick, Switzer, Long, Balsley & Van Evera
Community Leadership: LoRayne Logan, Founder & President, workplace staffing
Mentorship: Teresa Beach-Shelow, President, Superior Joining Technologies, Inc.
Professions: Dr. Martine Schultheis, Physician, OSF Healthcare
Promise: Kristin Hamblock, Director of Compensation & Benefits, Rosecrance Health Network
The 2019 Scholarship recipients are:
Bright Future Scholarship: Alicia Repka, Hononegah High School and Alyssa Thompson, Winnebago High School
La Voz Latina Scholarship: Nixie Lopez Leon, Belvidere North High School
The event keynote speaker was author Kimberla Lawson Roby.
“I would tell you that, if you are trying to overcome any obstacle, or trying to accomplish anything in life, to do what I do with every single thing that is placed before me, I do what I call the ‘four p’s,'” she said. “I pray. I plan. I practice. Then, I proceed.”
This was the 39th year for the luncheon.
