Two Rockton principals will camp out on their school’s roof after their students hit an impressive fundraising goal.

Kindyl Etnyre, principal at Rockton Grade School, and Megan Forsythe, principal at Whitman Post Elementary School, will both spend the night on top of their adjoining school’s roof. It’s due to the fact that Kindergarten through 5th grade students raised a total of $20,000 through the schools’ “Fun Run” fundraiser.

Students raised the money by promising to run a personally set distance in the “Fun Run.” The run itself, which featured a DJ, took place several weeks ago.

Rockton Grade students (Kindergarten through 2nd grade) raised $10,000, while Whitman Post students (3rd through 5th grade) matched that total to raise the $20,000.

The money will be used for grants for teachers for educational materials and to implement 21st century technology in classrooms.

Students will also be rewarded with an hour-long recess Thursday afternoon.
