Roosevelt High School Student Teaches Kids About Emergency Preparedness

News

A Rockford high school student is putting her studies into action. Roosevelt High School student Artissha James says everyone should be prepared for a natural disaster. With the help of the Rockford Fire Department and school staff, she developed emergency kits.

Saturday she showcased the kits and taught emergency response tips to Rockford children. Inside the kits were water bottles, a face mask, a whistle, and more. All the items she says are crucial for people to have incase they encounter an emergency situation.

“It pushed me to want to create bags for children because as we have seen today, most children don’t have bags at home with important stuff that they need, even if it’s something small,” she said. “So I wanted to give back to the community with that,” she added.
