RPS Students Make Cardboard Canoes

News

Rockford’s future engineers showed off their creative designs at Levings Lake.

It’s part of the inaugural RPS Cardboard Canoe Race.  Students in engineering design classes at Auburn, East, and Guilford worked in teams to create a boat to hold two teammates.  The rules?  They could only use cardboard and 180 yards of duct tape and the competition was fierce.

“We also want our students to be good sports,” said Chris Magee, Academy Coach at Guilford.  “We know that when they come back as professional engineers they might be working collaboratively at one of our wonderful engineering companies in town.”

Magee says the event gives students a great opportunity to network with their peers.
