South Beloit Police and Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies are searching for two men who broke into a South Beloit home, shooting one of the residents and pistol whipping another.
It happened Sunday night, around 10:40 p.m., in the 200 block of S. Park Avenue. Police say two black men forced their way inside and confronted the residents. Shots were fired, a male resident was hit in the stomach. A female resident was struck with a gun.
Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but the male victim was hospitalized. Police say the man was shot trying to fight off the suspects.
Deputy Chief of South Beloit Police Department Adam Truman says, “He had displayed a gun himself. There must have been some struggle that ensued. That weapon was taken from him.”
A Loves Park K-9 Unit was called in to assist in the search for the suspects; no arrests have been made. The suspects are described as two black males, each around 5’11”, one with dreadlocks.
Police say this is the first shooting in South Beloit since 2014.
Anyone with information is asked to call South Beloit Police or the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.
