Salvation Army hands out hundreds of ‘Koats for Kids’

Dozens of needy people turned up to the Salvation Army Temple, at 500 S Rockford Avenue, on Thursday to pick up free coats, hats, gloves and scarves.

The organization gathered over 1,600 winter items over the last several weeks during their “Koats for Kids” drive.

One woman says the collection came at the perfect time for her four young, growing children.

“My oldest child grows, like, every three weeks, so her coat is gonna get passed down to her sister,” said Candice Burton. “So, it came right on time. Like, RIGHT on time.”

The Salvation Army says it is grateful for all the people who donated items for those in need.
