Senior Citizen Transportation Services Cut As Illinois Budget Battle Continues

News

The dominoes continue to fall in the wake of the budget impasse in Springfield.

Senior transportation services across Illinois are being forced to make cuts, since the State isn’t paying them.  Those services mainly provide seniors a ride to medical facilities.

Now, officials say they’re forced to take public transportation, find their own ride, or skip their appointment altogether.

“They can’t just stand out there,” says Transportation Director Jeff Stott.  “When you have somebody going to dialysis or chemotherapy, they can’t stand and wait a half hour waiting outside for a bus to get to them.”

The Illinois budget stalemate is now in its eighth month.  State leaders we spoke with say nothing can be done until a budget is reached.
