Senior community offers donation of winter coats, hats, gloves to elementary students

Some Rockford school students will stay a little warmer this winter, thanks to a donation by the senior living community, Wesley Willows.

Employees with Wesley Willows donated 350 cold weather kits to Conklin Elementary School, at 3003 Halsted Road, on Monday.

Every student received a hat, gloves and socks.

Organizers say it is rewarding to see the direct impact they’re making on the community.

“It’s just great to see how the kids respond in the classroom, but also, afterward, the teachers help them write thank you notes and it’s just so encouraging, and a treat to see how it’s blessed them, and made their life a little better,” said Josephine Lyttle, Fund Development Coordinator at Wesley Willows.

This is the 2nd year the kits have been given to Conklin students.
