ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A serious car accident is causing delays on N. Main and Elmwood Road, involving multiple vehicles.

The Rockford Fire Department says two victims are suffering from life-threatening injuries, and extrication for one trapped occupant is underway.

A witness told Eyewitness News that a child was involved, and that the driver of an SUV was driving erratically prior to the crash.

Rockford Police say a 25-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man suffered non-life threatening injuries, and a child is listed in critical condition.

Police say a white SUV driven by the 34-year-old man was headed southbound on N. Main and ran a red light, crashing into a silver SUV turning left from Elmwood onto N. Main.

Police are investigating the accident and say traffic in the intersection will be shut down for several hours.
