Several Families Without a Home After Fire at Rockford Apartment Complex

A Sunday evening fire in Rockford leaves multiple families without a home.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of Silent Wood Trail. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the apartment building. Crews were able to contain the fire that began in a bedroom.

One woman was rescued from the fire, no one was hurt.

The Red Cross responded and assisted relocating 11 adults and 28 children to a local hotel.

The fire is under investigation. It caused an estimated $100,000 in damages.
