The director of the Rockford Public Works Department has resigned, and an interim director appointed Mayor McNamara announced Tuesday.
Matt Vitner resigned on Monday after a little more than a year on the job. He was appointed interim director himself in February, 2016 after longtime Public Works Director Tim Hanson left. “Matt’s contributions during his tenure have been a great asset to the city,” said Mayor McNamara in a statement. “We thank Matt for his service and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Street and Transportation Division Director Mark Stockman will serve as interim public works director. “Mark has a proven track record of success and has demonstrated his leadership in the department,” Mayor McNamara stated. “I am pleased Mark will be serving as the interim public works director.”
Stockman’s interim appointment and Vitner’s resignation are effective immediately. The city says it will announce plans for a public works leadership search in the coming weeks.
