Sheriff encourages vigilance in light of recent social posts on ‘suspicious activity’

In response to several posts on social media suggesting “suspicious activity”, Sheriff Gary Caruana’s office issued a statement on Tuesday advising the public if they see something, to say something.

Caruana’s statement follows recent Facebook posts in which the author would describe a situation in which they, or a young relative, was followed through a shopping center by several men, causing the person to feel they were in danger of abduction.

Caruana says he encourages everyone to pay attention to their surroundings and be on the lookout for suspicious persons or activities.

The Freeport Police Department posted a message on Facebook on Thursday, which warned the public to check the validity of the posts before becoming alarmed.
