Police discover two baggies full of illegal narcotics while investigating reports of shots fired in Rockford.

The shots fired call came in the area of Rockton Avenue and Whitman Street near downtown on Sunday. As police investigated, they learned of a street fight happening in the 700 block of N. Winnebago Street.

Officers arrived and broke up that fight, but noticed one of the men involved walking away as they began questioning the subjects. While following that man, an officer saw him discard a baggie. When the officer recovered it, he found cocaine and heroin inside. A second baggie was also later found nearby.

As a result, the subject in question was identified as Brandon Voss, 35, of Rockford, who is currently on parole. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver within 1,000 feet of a school.
