Fear of the unknown, that’s what local religious leaders hoped to shed simply by getting to know one another.
It’s all part of the Rockford Interfaith Coference Sunday at the Sikh Temple. Members of different religions gathered to talk and dispel any misconceptions about their faiths. Organizers say conversations like these can reduce racism and build a stronger, more unified community.
“This is the first Sikh temple [in Rockford]” said Sikh Temple President Baba-Ji. “A lot of people don’t know… Sikh Traditions, [the] community, [or] identity. [It’s] important to tell.”
