Police are responding to several slide-offs on the U.S. 20 bypass and also I-39 south of the bypass. Not only are slick conditions causing drivers to lose control, but it is also causing traffic backups.
The problem appeared to become more serious after 9am, when light snow froze on the plowed highway.
Several vehicles going too fast for conditions are reported to have lost control and slid into ditches or medians. There are some reports of minor injuries.
There are reports of slide-offs and crashes all across the Stateline area, but the U.S. 20 bypass appears to be particularly hazardous Friday morning.
The First Warn Weather Team advises that travel could still be slick long after the overnight heavy snow because of continuing light snow in spots and winds blowing snow across road surfaces.
