Social Media Threats Lead to Two Harlem Middle School Students Charged

News

The Loves Park Police Department is actively assisting the Harlem School District with an investigation into social media threats involving Harlem Middle School students. This investigation is unrelated to an earlier investigation from the previous week, determined to be an unsubstantiated threat.

On Sunday, November 24, 2019, at approximately, 11:04 AM, Loves Park Police began the investigation into threats made on a social media forum, after the threats were reported to police. The threats involved two Harlem Middle School students threatening each other and a third student, believed to be from a neighboring school district, posting additional threats toward Harlem Middle School.

After consultation with the States Attorney’s Office, two juveniles have been charged in relation to this investigation. Loves Park Police take any threats toward a school seriously and will seek criminal charges whenever warranted. Detectives continue to work on this investigation.
