A man is in jail after allegedly firing a gunshot at a deputy who was pursuing him on foot.
It began when the deputy was on patrol in the area of Center Street and Lincoln Street in South Beloit. He reported seeing a hand-to-hand drug transaction and attempted to make an arrest. That’s when the suspected drug dealer took off on foot, reportedly turning and firing one shot at the deputy. He then ran into a house in the 200 block of South Moore Street while the deputy took cover outside.
Backup units soon arrived, and the deputy observed the man run out the back door of the home. The Sheriff’s Deputy and a South Beloit Police Officer pursued the subject and took him into custody.
Police say they recovered found heroin and cash on him. A search of the home reportedly recovered more heroin, cash and a loaded Jimenez Arms .380 handgun. They say a total of 75 grams of heroin was recovered in all.
